On vous avait déjà parlé de ses exploits, c’est cette fois sur le spot helvète du Rawyl que le grimpeur suisse Dylan Chuat a sévi dernièrement avec une répétition de “Hyper Finale” pour son premier 9a+. Cette voie mitoyenne du célèbre 8c+/9a “La Cabane au Canada” fait près de 40 mètres. Equipée par Bertrand Martenet et libérée en 2016 par Adam Ondra, “Hyper Finale” remonte l’impressionnant dévers de la falaise, et est ponctuée de teigneux pas de bloc, dont une dernière section particulièrement difficile malgré un repos pendu juste avant (crux final autour de 8A+/B bloc après un 9a de 35 mètres et un repos pendu). Ce n’est que la seconde ascension de la voie, de nombreux grimpeurs ayant répété le bas de la voie ayant préféré sortir dans la sortie directe plus facile, “Le voile de Maya” pour réaliser “Super Finale” 9a, que Dylan avait coché au début du mois de mai.

Explique-nous ce pas de bloc sommital qui semble compliqué à négocier, que tu es seulement le second à vaincre dans l’enchainement ?
“Tu fais tout le dur de “Super Finale” (9a) et tu bifurques à droite pour faire 2 sections. Une première section pas facile sur des croûtes à serrer qui finit par une prise de risque, un jump dans un bac. Après cela tu as encore un gros pas de bloc réputé très difficile sur des non-prises, que certains estiment à 8B ! Je fais une méthode sensiblement différente des gens qui ont essayé comme Sam Ometz. Adam Ondra est passé avec une pince plate main gauche pour aller vers un bi-doigt ou mono, remonter le pied gauche et aller loin d’un bon tridoigt. Malgré un bon pied, c’est dur de tenir ces prises dans un panneau à 35° et de viser cette prise dans ce mouvement dynamique vraiment loin. Dès ma première montée, j’ai rapidement calé la séquence et en partant du bac je tombais à ce mouvement, donc je me suis dit que j’avais mes chances. Niveau méthode, j’arrive à m’asseoir très fort sur un talon et faire un drapeau avec une prise minuscule qui me perce les doigts si je la tiens plus de 3 fois dans la séance. Cela me permet de faire un crawl dans ce bi/mono avant de dynamiser dans la prise finale. Ce qui est assez drôle au final, c’est que j’ai réussi qu’une fois cette section, et c’était lors de l’enchainement, un vrai hold-up ! J’étais parti pour mettre un run et voir dans quel état j’allais arriver après l’approche en 9a, voir si j’avais le jus de faire le bloc dans l’enchainement. Je pense que le pas de bloc me convient vraiment bien. Personne n’a réussi la section en entier après Adam et moi, pour moi pas moins de 8A+ bloc.”

Il s’agit donc de la voie la plus dure jamais réalisée par Dylan, bien que cela lui ait pris en tout seulement 7 séances, 5 pour réaliser “Super Finale” et 2 supplémentaires pour vaincre l’intégrale avec ce teigneux pas de bloc. A noter qu’auparavant, l’affûté couteau suisse empilait déjà les 9a comme sa chienne Panda les croquettes et donc ce dernier n’est sûrement pas encore à ses limites en escalade sportive… L’avenir nous le dira !

It was on the Swiss crag of Rawyl that the Swiss climber Dylan Chuat lately did an ascent of “Hyper Finale” for his first 9a+. This neighbouring route to the famous 8c+/9a “La Cabane au Canada” is nearly 40 meters long. Bolted by Bertrand Martenet and freed in 2016 by Adam Ondra, “Hyper Finale” goes throw the impressive overhang of the cliff, and is ended by rough final, including a particularly bouldery and difficult section despite a hanging rest just before (the final crux is estimated around 8A+/B boulder after an 35 meters 9a and a hanging rest). This is only the second ascent of the route, many climbers having repeated the bottom of the route having preferred to exit in the direct exit and easier final, “Le voile de Maya” for climbing “Super Finale” 9a, that Dylan already climbed at the beggining of May.

Tell us more about this final boulder, you are only the second climber to unlock?
You climb all the hard part of “Super Finale” (9a) and you go to the right to do 2 sections. First, a tricky first section on crimps which ends with a risk taking dyno into a jug. After that you still have a big boulder crux, known to be very difficult on non-holds, which some climbers estimate at 8B boulder! I do a significantly different method from people who have tried like Sam Ometz. Adam Ondra climbed with a flat pinch left hand to go towards a two-finger or mono, put the left foot and go away from a good three-finger pocket. Despite a good foothold, it’s hard to hold those kind of tiny holds in a 35° overhang and solve that really far dynamic move. AT my first try on it, I quickly found the sequence and starting from the jug I fell to this last move, so I told myself that I had my chances. In terms of beta, I manage to sit very hard on my heel and do a cross with a tiny crimpt that cut my skin if I hold it more than 3 times in the session. It allows me to do a cross in this bi/mono before the final move. What’s pretty funny in the end is that I only managed this section once, and it was during the send, a real hold-up! I did a try to see how were my power after the 9a approach, to see if I had enough strenght to do the boulder from the ground. I gave all and I did it! I think the boulder crux suits me really well. Nobody arrived to climb the whole section except Adam and me, so for me it’s no less than 8A+ boulder.

It’s for sure Dylan’s hardest route despite having not put a siege here with only 7 sessions, 5 to tick the 9a approach and 2 to link the top boulder. Before Dylan was crushing 9a’s like his dog Panda its kibbles. So his margin seems further. The future will tell…

En fin d’été dernier, la grimpeuse allemande Solveig Korherr était la 3ème fille à réaliser la “Cabane au Canada” au Rawyl en Suisse. Voici le video de Solveig en action dans cette voie d’endurance remontant planche déversante de 30 mètres de haut. Cette voie est connue pour être le second 9a à vue de l’histoire de l’escalade par Adam Ondra, certains répétiteurs s’accordant à dire que la voie pourrait valoir plutôt 8c+. Appréciez la belle ambiance alpine des lieux.

Last summer, Solveig Korherr was the 3rd woman to clip the anchor of “La Cabane au Canada”, Rawyl, Switzerland. Here is the video of Solveig climbing this endurance testpiece in a 30 meters wall overhang. Après “Lucifer” (8c+) à Red River Gorge en 2019, la grimpeuse allemande Solveig Korherr refait une nouvelle belle coche ! Solveig vient de réaliser son projet de l’année avec “La cabane au Canada” sur le site du Rawyl en Suisse. Cette voie proposée 9a avait été réalisée à vue par Adam Ondra en juillet 2013, devenant le second grimpeur à réaliser une telle perf’ après Alex Megos et “Estado critico”. C’est la 3ème ascension féminine de la voie après Julia Chanourdie et Kathy Choong, un dévers long de 30 mètres très déversant qui a été pas mal enchainé ces dernières années et dont certains répétiteurs pensent qu’elle pourrait valoir plutôt 8c+.

“Je n’aurai pas souhaité un meilleur endroit et une plus belle voie pour accomplir mon rêve à long terme ! Depuis que j’ai passé un peu de temps à Rawyl l’année dernière et que j’ai déjà gravi la voie “La cabane au Paradis” qui est la voisine de “La cabane au Canada”, partageant la même partie inférieure, j’ai su instantanément que je voulais revenir et grimper cette ligne parfaite !

Après être tombée plusieurs fois dans la partie supérieure l’année dernière et avoir pas mal lutté avec un mouvement qui était à faible pourcentage de réussite et loin pour moi, je doutais de moi-même sur ma capacité à réaliser cette partie depuis le sol après avoir déjà 25 mètres d’escalade difficiles dans mes bras.

Quand je suis revenue cette année, je voulais être bien préparée et j’ai réalisé un cycle d’entraînement plus long. La différence que j’ai ressentie était presque insensée – pouvoir récupérer beaucoup mieux dans la partie inférieure et trouver une nouvelle méthode dans le crux du haut. J’ai été totalement surprise que je puisse tenir la petite intermédiaire que j’ai utilisé pour le grand mouvement et atteindre la prise suivante d’une manière beaucoup plus statique et sûre.

Cela m’a donné beaucoup de confiance et je savais qu’avec un bon esprit que c’était totalement dans mes capacités et au final, je pense que cette voie n’aurait pas pu mieux me convenir !”

After her repeat of “Lucifer” (8c+), Red River Gorge in 2019, the German climber Solveig Korherr has struck again! She just completed her project of the year with “La cabane au Canada” at the Rawyl crag in Switzerland. This route, proposed at 9a, had been onsighted by Adam Ondra in July 2013, who then became the second climber to achieve such a feat, after Alex Megos and “Estado critico”. This is the 3rd female ascent of the route after Julia Chanourdie and Kathy Choong, a very steep 30m long overhang which has received a lot of repeats this last year, and which some repeaters think tends towards 8c+.
Here is the translation of Solveig’s comment on her Instagram account following her send.

“I couldn’t have wished for a better route and place to fulfill a longterm dream of mine!

Since I spent a bit of time in Rawyl last year and already climbed the route “La cabane au Paradis” which is the neighbour of “La cabane au Canada” and shares the same lower part, I knew instantly that I wanted to come back and climb this impeccable line!

After falling a few times in the upper part of Cabane au Canada last year and struggling quite a bit with one move which was very low-percentage and big for me, I was doubting myself if I could do this part from the ground after having already 25 meters of harder climbing in my arms.

When I came back this year I wanted to be well prepared and came straight out of a longer training cycle. The difference I felt was almost insane – being able to recover much better in the lower part and finding a new beta for the upper crux. I was totally surprised that the tiny intermediate I used for the big move I could now lock off and reach the next hold in a much more static and safe way.

That gave me a lot of confidence and I knew with a good mindest it’s totally in my ability and in the end, I think this route couldn’t have fit me better!“
