Video. En octobre dernier, Clément Lechaptois réalisait la première ascension du technico-physique “Solitary Daze” 8C tout en compression dans un gros dévers de Fionnay en Suisse. Ce bloc n’est autre que la directe de sortie d’un vieux problème de Dave Graham, “Permanent Midnight” 8A+, ouvert en 2006 dans une planche de 50°. Voici la vidéo du processus qui a conduit à la première ascension après 8 jours de travail. Les deux derniers mouvements durs sur des talons précaires ont l’air particulièrement torrides !

This boulder is the direct exit of an old Dave Graham problem, “Permanent Midnight” 8A+ opened in 2006 on a 50° overhang. Here is the video showing the process until the first ascent after 8 days of work. The last 2 hard moves off of tricky heel hooks look completely insane!
Clément Lechaptois vient de réaliser une nouvelle première ascension extrême à son CV avec l’ouverture de “Solitary Daze” 8C à Fionnay en Suisse qui est la directe de sortie du 8A+ de “Permanent Midnight” ouvert par Dave Graham en 2006 dans un panneau déversant à 50°. C’est le 4ème 8C de Clément et sa première ascension la plus difficile.
“Le problème partage le premier mouvement avec le 8A+ puis va tout droit au lieu de traverser à droite vers l’arête. Cela m’a pris environ 8 jours je pense, j’ai réussi à faire la première section du bloc en 3/4 jours (mais je n’étais pas capable de l’empiler plus de 3 fois par session) et je pensais que je le ferai vite. Mais j’ai eu tout faux. Le vrai crux était en fait le dernier mouvement. J’ai essayé pas mal de méthodes différentes mais ma première idée fut finalement la bonne pour moi. J’ai utilisé un talon gauche qui était précaire, mais qui marchait pas mal quand il ne zippait pas. C’est une bonne méthode je pense. Les prises et les mouvements du passage sont incroyables, j’ai pris beaucoup de plaisir en l’essayant !”

“The problem only shares the first move with the 8A+, then it goes straight instead of traversing right to the arete. It took me about 8 days I think. I managed to do the first section in 3-4 days (but I wasn’t able to do it more than 3 times per session) and I thought I could do the problem. But I was wrong. The real crux, in the end, turned out to be the last move. I tried a lot of different things but my first idea was eventually the right one for me. I used a left heel hook that was quite low percentage but worked pretty well when it didn’t slip. It’s a good one I think.
