En réalisant son premier 9a avec le gros plafond de Massone (Arco), “Underground”, l’autrichienne Eva Hammelmüller (21 ans) confirme son super état de forme déjà constaté l’an dernier au vu de résultats prometteurs en compétition et d’avalanches de croix sur caillou. C’est la seconde féminine de la voie après Laura Rogora et la 3ème autrichienne dans le 9ème degré après Angie Eiter et Babsi Zangerl. Voici la réaction d’Eva.
“Je m’appelle Eva Hammelmüller et j’ai commencé l’escalade à l’âge de 8 ans. Alors que je cherchais de nouveaux projets et que “Underground” était complètement différent de toutes les autres voies d’escalade que j’avais essayées, j’ai voulu me mettre au défi dans celle-ci. “Underground” est un itinéraire historiquement important et même s’il ne correspondait pas vraiment à mon style, c’était tout simplement incroyable à grimper ! Au total, il m’a fallu 11 essais pour réaliser la voie, et même si j’ai eu un peu de mal dans le premier crux, je suis vraiment contente des progrès que j’ai faits d’un essai à un autre. J’ai toujours beaucoup aimé grimper à l’extérieur, et j’ai profité du temps sans compétitions pendant la pandémie pour repousser mes limites sur les falaises. Pour moi, grimper à l’extérieur est un changement agréable et nécessaire à l’escalade de compétition, et j’aime particulièrement l’après-travail. Trouver le bon équilibre entre compétition et outdoor est pour moi très important. Mon objectif principal est d’être aussi forte que possible et d’obtenir de bons résultats en compétition ainsi que de gravir de nombreuses lignes superbes dehors.”

With “Underground” (Massone, Arco), her first 9a, Austrian 21-years oldEva Hammelmüller seems to be in her best shape ever after one year of promising competition results and numerous rockclimbing ticks. It’s the second female ascent of the route after Laura Rogora, and Eva is the third Austrian woman to reach the 9th grade after Angie Eiter and Babsi Zangerl. Here are Eva’s thoughts.
“My name is Eva Hammelmüller and I started climbing when I was 8 years old. As I was looking for new projects and Underground was completely different than any other rock climbing route I’ve ever tried, I wanted to challenge myself with this route. Underground is a historically important route and althought it didn’t really fit my style, it felt simply amazing to climb! In total, it took me 11 tries to send the route, and even though I struggled a bit in the first crux, I am really happy with the progress I’ve made from each go to the next. I’ve always loved to climb a lot outside, and I used the time without competitions during the pandemic to push my limits on hard rock climbs. For me, climbing outside is a nice and necessary change to competition climbing, and I simply love the process of projecting routes. Finding the right balance between comp and rock climbing is for me very important. My main goal regarding climbing is to get as strong as possible and to achieve good results incompetitions as well as to climb many cool lines outside.“
