ATTENTION : POUR CEUX QUI NE L’AURAIENT PAS COMPRIS, CET ARTICLE EST UN POISSON D’AVRIL

Vous en avez peut-être entendu parler, en janvier dernier Cédric Lachat avait eu un accrochage avec Pierre Le Cerf à propos d’une enceinte portative à la falaise de St-Léger. En effet, Cédric était tombé au dernier mouvement dur d’un 9a, déconcentré par la musique du jeune talent niçois qui avait poussé le son à fond pour encourager un pote en train de mettre un run dans un 8a mitoyen. Cédric, exaspéré autant par la musique que par ce comportement irrespectueux avait alors shooté dans l’enceinte, l’envoyant faire un vol plané dans la garrigue et le talus… L’histoire raconte que Pierre a eu du mal à retrouver son enceinte qui pourtant fonctionnait encore à plein régime, son son étant couvert par les aboiements de Linka, la chienne de Cédric, qui avait été excitée par les tensions du pied de falaise. Finalement l’enceinte a été retrouvée intacte, et depuis Pierre a eu sa revanche, enchainant le grand projet de Cédric “Eagle-4” et allant même à le décoter grâce à un raisonnement logique implacable et un astucieux coincement de genou entre les deux parties difficiles de la voie.

Dans une interview accordée à nos confrères de Grimper, Pierre Le Cerf avait légitimé la musique en bas des voies en falaise “si tout le monde est d’accord” (ce qui lui vaut le surnom de l’homme qui parlait à l’oreille des oiseaux), expliquant de manière très rationnelle que cet artifice lui permettait de gagner “5% de plus en niveau, et 5% c’est énorme”. Une déclaration qui a fait des émules, car depuis quelques semaines nous tendons de plus en plus fréquemment l’oreille au pied des falaises et des blocs, et au gré des générations nous avons la chance d’écouter du Jean-Michel Jarre, du Thunderdome, du Manu Le Malin ou encore du Skrillex, voire au mieux de la bonne techno d’auto-tamponneuse. Cédric, qui continuait de patiner dans “Eagle-4” a décidé finalement décidé de mettre de l’eau dans son vin, et fort de son expérience en entrainement a voulu vérifier si la musique lui faisait fermer le bras effectivement 5% plus fort.

Et là surprise. Cédric décrit : “Ce n’est pas 5% mais en réalité 13,6% de puissance en plus que j’ai gagné, basant mes statistiques sur un test de biomécanique réalisé au cabinet de Guillaume Levernier avec un son atteignant les 105 dB. Et en plus, quand je passe du Abba, ma chienne se couche immédiatement et arrête de faire la misère à toute la falaise, ce qui me permet de gagner en autorité et en confiance en moi. Je vais de ce pas inclure ce nouveau module dans mes formations ClepClimbing. J’ai même déjà commencé à travailler avec Vladimir Cellier et Sean Villanueva sur de nouveaux sons. Je tiens à remercier Pierre Le Cerf pour m’avoir ouvert les yeux et permis enfin de réaliser mon projet. Quant à la cotation, au regard du gain de performance considérable, d’autant plus si vous passez comme moi deux mois à bien sécher les prises au pq, vous pouvez pencher d’avantage pour un 8c+.” Toujours pas de premier 9b donc pour la légende suisse, tandis que Pierre est actuellement en train d’effectuer une levée de fonds pour s’acheter des écouteurs Bluetooth en titane comme ses biceps.

Revers de la médaille, alertée par le vacarme ces derniers jours au Secteur Praniania, la Ligue de Protections des Oiseaux a contacté la mairie de St-Léger du Ventoux afin d’interdire la falaise. Cela intervient au plus mauvais moment, réagit le comité FFME local, car “nous allions sortir une nouvelle réactualisation du topo de 2008 pourtant épuisé depuis des années, prévue pour horizon 2023/24 : un nouvel additif de l’additif de l’additif de 4 pages, avec les nouvelles voies par secteur présentées grâce à une petite photo prise au téléphone, un document référence avec une préface signée Jibé Tribout.”
Nous vous tiendrons informés des prochains développements ici, car on ne s’ennuie pas actuellement dans les gorges du Toulourenc.

WARNING: FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T UNDERSTAND IT, THIS ARTICLE IS AN APRIL FOOL

You may have heard that at the beginning of this year Cédric Lachat and Pierre Le Cerf had a violent altercation regarding the use of a portable speaker in St-Léger du Ventoux. Cédric fell off the last move of a 9a, according to himself, distracted by the music played through the speaker of Nice’s young talent. Cédric, exasperated, had then kicked the speaker, sending it flying in the bushes… The story goes that Pierre then had trouble finding his speaker, although still working at full volume, its sound being drowned in the barking of Linka, Cédric’s dog, who had been flustered by the brawl. Eventually, the speaker was found intact, and Pierre had his revenge, sending –and even downgrading- Cédric’s big project “Eagle-4”.

In an interview with our colleagues of Grimper, Pierre Le Cerf explained that “everyone at the cliff was ok with the speaker”. He also went on to argue, that music allows him “to gain 5% power, which is a lot!”. A statement that didn’t go unnoticed apparently. Cédric who’d kept struggling in “Eagle-4” decided to reconsider his stance and used his training experience to see if music did indeed yield a 5% improvement for him too.

To his greatest surprise Cédric exclaims “It’s not 5% but 13.6 % power I gained, according to biomecanical data from tests done with Guillaume Levernier in 105 dB-loud music. Even better, when I play Abba, my dog obeys better and stops bothering everyone around at the crag, which then boosts my self-confidence. I will definitely now include this in my ClepClimbing training classes. I even started working on some news songs with Sean Villanueva and Vladimir Cellier. I want to thank Pierre Le Cerf for opening my eyes (and ears) and thus helping me finish my project. Regarding the grade, considering this recent performance gain, and the fact I spent the last two months drying the holds with toilet paper, I think this route is only 8c+”. So the 9b quest remains for the top Swiss climber. Meanwhile Pierre is putting up a crowdfunding in order to purchase bluetooth titanium headphones.

On the downside, alerted by the recent rumbles at the Praniania Sector, the local League for the Protection of Birds contacted the mayor’s office of St-Léger to ban the crag to climbers. This comes with a terrible timing, reacts the local federal FFME comitee, because “we were just about to release an update of the 2008 guidebook, which has been sold out for years, scheduled for 2023/24; including a new 4-page addition to the addition of the addition, with the new routes for each sector presented by a cell-phone picture. This was going to be the reference document with a preface signed Jibé Tribout.” We will keep you informed of the next developments, because there is currently a lot going on in the Toulourenc gorges.

“Swissway to heaven” n’est plus un projet ! Deux ans jour pour jour après les premiers plans et les premières ascensions, la pile électrique suisse Cédric Lachat est heureux de présenter son opus consacré à 5 musts en grande voie dans son beau pays. “Swissway to heaven” : 5 faces mythiques helvétiques mais aussi de terribles challenges de haute difficulté, réputés parmi les plus durs des Alpes et où les ascensions en libre se comptent sur les doigts d’une main….

Après un apéritif aux Gastlosen dans “Yeah man” qui est avalée en guise d’échauffement, les choses sérieuses démarrent aux Wenden, une muraille de 10 kilomètres assez imposante avec un accès périlleux et déroutant. Un mix de longueurs old school très difficiles et d’engagement, où la philosophie de l’alpinisme et le côté puriste transpire, avec des longueurs extrêmement dures sur rasoirs qui se mêlent à des parties plus faciles clairement exposées, rajoutant au challenge une dimension psychologique assez élevée ! Telle est la marque de fabrique des voies et des parois choisies et présentées ici, comme l’impressionnant Eiger où l’ambiance de “Merci la vie” semble redoutable ! 
Mention spéciale aux aspects historiques, culturels et techniques distillés ça et là avec des témoignages de légendes comme Beat Kammerlander, Claude Rémy ou d’alpinistes réputés comme Nina Caprez, Roger Schaeli, Stephan Siegrist, Tobias Suter, Fabien Dugit qui apportent un éclairage connaisseur et expert particulièrement pertinent.

Réalisé par le talentueux Guillaume Broust, “Swissway to heaven” mixe avec un savant dosage rappels historiques, descriptifs de longueurs clé, moments de vie en paroi et complicités partagées entre partenaires de cordées, mais aussi travail des longueurs avec de nombreux plans spectaculaires et des prises de vue impeccables permettant de vivre au plus près les ascensions et de s’imprégner des ambiances. Un parfait équilibre avec un montage dynamique, le tout agrémenté d’une bonne couche d’humour. Mais nous ne sommes pas non plus au cirque, et Cédric Lachat pose ses tripes. Il semble clairement poussé dans ses derniers retranchements dans les deux dernières ascensions.

On reste scotché par la difficulté inouïe de la partie sommitale de “Fly”, ou par l’engagement et la haute technicité de “WoGü”, point d’orgue du film. Cédric est proche de ses limites, les chutes sont carrément flippantes et les enchainements semblent presque relever de l’aléatoire et de la chance, tout en demandant des conditions. Le top grimpeur suisse élève alors encore un peu plus son niveau pour se hisser à la hauteur du challenge avec des premières à la journée sans chuter. C’est fort ! “Swissway to heaven” est un beau portrait de ce grimpeur qui transpire la passion, simple, drôle et accessible, mais aussi extrêmement déterminé, méthodique et efficace : une personnalité attachante. Et surtout un magnifique tour du proprio des grandes voies alpines majeures du pays du chocolat !

Swissway to heaven is a project no more! Two years to the day after the first outline and ascents, the Duracell bunny that is Cédric Lachat is delighted to present his documentary dedicated to the 5 hardest multipitch routes in his beautiful country. Swissway to heaven: 5 legendary Swiss rockfaces, but also sordidly difficult climbing undertakings, renowned to be among the hardest in the Alps, and on which free ascents are very few and far between…

After a light starter in the Gastlosen with “Yeah man”, dispatched almost as a warm-up, the mains begin proper in the Wenden, an imposing 10km-long cliff, whose approach is as perilous as it is tricky. The route itself serves up very hard and committing old school pitches, where the philosophy of alpinism and a definite purist’s take shine through, mixing super hardcore pitches on razor blades and easier, fully exposed sections which add a clear psychological dimension to this already massive challenge! And that is, in fact, the defining trait of the routes and faces presented in this film, such as on the impressive Eiger, where the atmosphere on “Merci la vie” seems pretty scary, to say the least!

Praise be to the historical, cultural and technical aspects shared here and there in the form of chats with legends such as Beat Kammerlander, Claude Rémy or proven alpinists like Nina Caprez, Roger Schaeli, Stephan Siegrist Tobis Suter and Fabien Dugit, who shine knowledgeable and expert lights of à-propos pertinence.

Shot and produced by the talented Guillaume Broust, Swissway to heaven mixes a well-balanced sprinkling of historical snippets, captivating descriptions of the key pitches, moments of life in the vertical as well as an insight into the shared emotions between climbers, work on various pitches with plenty of spectacular shots, all of which conspire to making us experience the ascents in a thrilling manner and soak up the atmosphere. The balance is perfect, with a dynamic production and, of course, a good helping of humour and fun: after all, the main protagonist is Cédric Lachat! But it’s not at all a circus performance, Cédric also commits as if there is no tomorrow. In the last two ascents, he clearly seems pushed to his very limits. The insane difficulty of the upper part of “Fly”, or the commitment and über hard technic required for “WoGü”—the culmination of the film—are gobsmacking. Cédric Lachat appears at the end of his tether (pun intended), the falls are properly scary, and the sends almost seem to rely on pure luck, as well as accommodating conditions. The Swiss beast raises the bar yet again in order to match the pitches’ extreme difficulty and succeeds in freeing the route, without falls, in a day! In such instances, “strong” seems like a pretty meek word indeed.

“Swissway to heaven” proves to be a beautiful portrait of a climber who exudes passion, fun and a down-to-earth attitude, but also one extremely determined, methodical and efficient : A pleasant personality. And of course, it is a tremendous guided tour of the most hardcore alpine multipitch routes in Chocolate country.

Produced by talented French filmmaker Guillaume Broust, the premiere will take place on June 9th (Chamonix Film festival). “Swissway to heaven” showcases 5 hard multipich routes on 5 mountain ranges: Eiger, Lauterbrunnen, Wendenstocke, Rätikon and Gastlosen.
